During a family visit to an Indian mound museum, George Ella Lyon came upon a sign that asserted we humans are no longer dependent on the natural world for our survival. Though we seem more dependent on technology today, Ms. Lyon believes that we are absolutely still part of the natural world.

George Ella Lyon’s most recent poetry collection is Many-Storied House. Her honors include an Al Smith Fellowship, numerous grants from The Kentucky Foundation for Women, and a Pushcart Prize nomination. A native of Harlan, Kentucky, Lyon works as a freelance writer and teacher based in Lexington.
