The truth of the matter is that we do not live in a perfect world and I do believe that it will never be so. Perfect is something that in my mind can never be achieved, just sought after. Yes maybe my views can be looked at as a bit pessimist but I see it as realistic. We as human beings are hardwired and raised to survive and conquer. Human’s desire to win makes chaos reek upon the enemy, who ever that enemy might be. I know that humans are the problem in this equation; we are what stand in the way of achieving peace.
Throughout human history countries have been waging war upon each other. Envy and greed two of the most poisonous and most potent sins were and are factors that contribute to war. War is a way of obtaining more of what is wanted in excess. With war comes devastation on either side, in the winning side the loss is sometimes forgotten because appetites were quenched; in other words they got what they wanted and nothing else matters. Something tragic has to happen for people to want to enter into war they are looking for blood, for revenge. This concept can be seen in the day when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor; Americans who opposed the war now were completely for it.
Another way people are the problem in obtaining total harmony is the controversy of government. Government is in essence the glue that holds its people together treating everyone alike, but indeed does the total opposite. In its corrupt system many are treated unfairly and are abused. Government tears people as a whole apart creating a barrier that is filled with hate and friction against the opposing side. Government though the use of propaganda and other techniques influences its people to think a certain way; it doesn’t want its people to think independently. I am not advocating elimination of government but I find it used improperly and ineffective!
Another example of why people are the reason why peace is impossible is because of the emphasis that people put into religion. This is ironic because religion’s primary goal is to achieve peace within everyone and everything. But in truth it as well as government brings people apart. It causes much controversy throughout the world this is very true when in WWII Jews were being sought after and murdered by Nazis because of their religion. Jews were used scapegoats, they were to blame for all the misfortunes that the Germans had.
Government, religion and war can all be substituted in for greed, envy and the empathetic. These feelings that people have prevent man kind from becoming peaceful. All these feelings contribute to destruction to fellow mankind. With these elements in existence there is no way in coming close to achieving true peace. With these factors out of the picture we are well on our journey to finding true tranquility.
