I feel there are many things I can believe in and be thankful for; some are larger than others. However the most significant action in my life is being adopted. I would say it has affected my life the most because of my parents love and determination of fighting for me.
My parents have waited and tried to adopt for over 7 years. They have always wanted a kid for the longest. My mom’s sisters have kids and my dad’s siblings have kids. So they have always wanted the chance to raise a kid from childhood. I guess it was always one of their dreams.
I came to be with my parents because of their patience and determination of wanting a kid of their own. My dad had to work on the day of the deadline for the chance to adopt, so he got off work at 5 and headed towards Montgomery to meet Louise Green at the adoption agency. Come to find out, she was off that day, but he had her cell number so he went and found her at her house in Montgomery. That in itself shows huge determination, perseverance and the definite want for a child.
From that point on, my parents waited another year in half for the long awaited phone call. My mom was at work when the phone rang, but she was away from her desk. Mrs. Green left her a message that in my parents’ eyes changed their life forever. My mom called her back shortly after and when she found out the news she literally fainted in her chair. The news was that it was a boy who was 9 months old and that they were supposed to pick it up that Friday in Mobile, Alabama.
My parents always tell me I have been a joy to their life and without me they wouldn’t be the same. I am lucky that my birth mom chose to give me up for adoption instead of abortion. This I Believe.
