My father had worked at Tatum Ranch Golf Course for the past three years. My father was a man of the game. He was able to golf for free because he worked at the course. I believe I learned how to fully relax and enjoy the peacefulness of the world when my father taught me to play golf.
When my Father and I walked through the towering glass doors of the Pro Shop at Tatum Ranch Golf Course we were instantly greeted by a man that stood about six feet tall, he was the Head Pro at the golf course. He asked us “you guys want to go out on the course today?” to which my dad replied “yes we would like to play the front nine.” My dad then said “we will take a cart” The Head Pro then handed my Father the keys said “have fun out there”
We walked around the Pro Shop building to reveal a line of six or seven white and black golf carts. On the back of the carts there were two racks, one for each of the golfers golf bag. My Father and I strapped our golf clubs into the racks and got into the cart.
My Father drove the cart along the gray concrete cart path towards the first hole. My Father turned to me and said “Now the pin is in the middle of the green on this hole and it says that we have 350 yards from this tee box to the middle of the tee box. Your gunna want to use either a three wood or a driver” He then grabbed his driver out of his golf bag and walked up onto the tee box. He looked at me and said “you’re gunna want to tee your ball up because we have so long to go to the green” He teed up his ball and with a mighty swing the little white golf ball was sent down the fairway. My father stepped down off the tee box, looked at me and said “it’s your turn now” I then walked up onto the grassy green tee box and with a mighty swing I sent the golf ball flying about 100 yards down the fairway.
For those couple of seconds I felt like I was on top of the world. I felt as if I was at total peace, as if I had no worries in the world.
My father taught me how to do one of the most important things in life. He taught me one how to deal with stress and hard times in life peacefully. He may have thought that he was just teaching how to play a simple game but little did he know, he taught me way more than that when he taught me to play the wonderful game of golf.
