I believe that the best people in life are undiscovered. Not everyone receives recognition for a good deed or an important decision. It is because he or she didn’t receive the chance. In fact I do have two events that happened before or during my lifetime which make me believe in this.
Event 1:
Most of my friends in Boy Scouting know the story of our friend who was put into an extremely scary situation that occurs plenty but never seemed so real. My friend was at home having lunch in his kitchen next to his garage. It was one of those warm, humid, lazy feeling days during summer where all you wanted to do was sit back, sip some lemonade, and read a good book in the shade of a tree with a slight wind slowly rocking you. My friend’s dad was in the garage, tinkering with the chain of his beloved bicycle. My friend’s sister was right next to him while their mother was away. Ironically it was one of those peaceful days that something so horrible happens. His father suffered a massive heart attack. My friend called 911 and everything was ok. And my friend received his name on a plaque. My friend has become slightly arrogant since this event. I believe that a lot of others could do the exact same thing.
Event 2:
A second event has happened is happening, and will happen in the future. This event is bravery during war. For example during World War two many soldiers throughout the war received medals of Honor. In fact in the book Flags of our Fathers the flag raisers from Iwo Jima are honored while all of them insist that they weren’t heroes. They say the all of them were the real heroes. They had all served together, fought together, and suffered together. However by pure chance these men had been chosen to do a special duty, making a huge morale boost, and were honored for it. All of the surviving flag raisers agreed that any man would have done the same, if they had survived.
That is why I believe that the best people remain unrecognized because by chance someone else had received an opportunity to make his or her name. I firmly believe that the best people in history are not honored or recognized because they are not offered opportunities to make their names heard.
