I believe in snowboarding.
I believe in soaring down the slopes of the backcountry, carving the untouched white blanket of snow. Floating off the whitecaps and shredding the unmarked territory. It’s the sight of heaven in my eyes. The feel of the board cutting through the snow is like slicing through a stick of butter. The ease and gentle movements I make feel so sylphlike.
I believe in experiencing the feeling of liberation every time I soar into the air off of a perfectly formed shape of snow. I enjoy the feeling of weightlessness as I fly through the air, as if the chains of gravity have all been severed from me. As I rotate through the air my state of mind somehow rises above me, and I have an omniscient view of my surroundings. The glistening peaks strike me like glowing stars.
I believe in the thrill and passion of “shredding” up the mountain. Just me, my board, a delicate ballet of curves and lines through the snow. There’s no better feeling than barreling through the wooded terrain, listening to the whistle of the wind rushing past my face, and feeling the “freshies” kicking up from the tip of my board.
I believe in controlling my board as if it is an extension of my own body. I manipulate it to understand and obey my predetermined thoughts. As I wind my way through a heavily wooded run the trees pass by me at a slowed pace. It seems impossible that they could ever be a danger. As I continue through on my technical path that somehow lays itself out before me I execute my movements as if I have ran this course a thousand times before.
I believe in adrenaline coursing through my veins. I believe in risking it all to hit the line that no one has ever attempted before. I desire to hold nothing back, and to thrust the thoughts of cowardice to the back of my mind to journey into the unknown where no one can or will go. I seek the unexpected. I dream of unmarked chutes that only I place my track on.
I believe one who strives to do what they love, is one who is willing to risk it all. I see, feel, and sense no danger. I rely on my board as my way of surviving. If I misjudge one drop, one jump or one over correction, it could be the end. So I do this sport, not as an activity like most individuals, but as a way of life. With a constant purpose and drive to go beyond what anyone believes possible. I believe in pushing the limits.
I believe in snowboarding.
