Have you ever asked someone for something or to do something for you and you didn’t say please or thank you? Have you ever hurt someone physically or mentally on accident and never apologized? My mom has spent my whole life trying to teach me how to be respectful.
My mom used to be so embarrassed to have me go to my friends houses because she was afraid I wouldn’t say “thank you so much for having me over”. So instead, she had my friends come over to my house and whenever my friends left, only one friend usually said thank you. Then my mom would mumble under her breath, “How rude, nobody says thank you for having me over at your house” I know my mom really didn’t care because at that time I was only five.
My brother is the opposite of me now. I always says “thanks for having me over” while my brother just says “latter” and walks out the door, or he will say “bye” then walk out the door.
Last year, before eighth grade graduation, my mom took Kenzie, Shelby, Hannah, and me shopping for our graduation tea dresses. On the way home I said “I want something to drink”. That’s when it all started!
Shelby started begging my mom for ice cream and didn’t even say please. I could tell my mom was getting irritated so I said “not today. I have homework and I need a lot of time to work on it”. Hannah and Shelby started begging again so my mom pulled in to Jack in the Box. I asked for four small Oreo milkshakes, when all of a sudden, Hannah and Shelby literally start screaming for large milkshakes with extra Oreos. Kenzie, my mom and I were all very irritated now so I turned around and said “YOU GET WHAT YOU GET!” After we got the milkshakes, Kenzie and I were the only two who said thank you to my mom.
Another time I invited a friend to my dads’ house and the whole weekend, all she did was sit on my dads’ computer, complaining that there was nothing to do. I was irritated and now whenever I ask my dad if I can bring a friend over to his house his automatic response is always not Shelby.
Have you ever asked someone for a favor and you never thanked them? I have and so I believe that people should be respectful and everyone should be raised to be polite.
