I believe in the inevitability of change. We can resist change, we can implement it, and we can embrace it, or have it forced upon us. No matter how we respond to it, change occurs. Immovable objects wait silently for outside forces to act. As human beings we are also confronted with the opportunity to lead change.
Chinese writing uses two characters to symbolize change. One symbol means danger, and the other, opportunity. Change involves calculating risk. We risk failure, for success. We risk death, for the possibility of life. Change involves the inescapable acceptance of reality as it occurs, or seizing the situation and acting upon it.
Our world is rapidly changing. We have finite resources, limited finances, challenges, and significant problems. Managing our circumstances operate in the short-term, but the scale of our challenges increase in geometric proportion, while our resources diminish. Change does happen. Since it happens, I believe we need to embrace it, before the inertia of our short-sightedness finds us void of options.
Major transformation is required of this world, and this country. Our future is dependent upon variables in constant flux. As humans, we plead our cases, and support causes based on perception, without regard for reality. The one who can market most effectively is the one who receives the prize. Ingenuity seldom wins out over the influential. Every day we become aware of lapses in judgment, loss of credibility. We become complacent, and confused, making irrational conclusions.
Change happens, and the changing environment of our choices fuels change. When managers are placed in positions of leadership we lose our sense of direction. Change needs to fuel our imaginations, and provide a desirable future. I believe change happens. Let us focus on leading change; to drive innovation, a positive present, and a preferable future.
