”It is amazing what can be accomplished when nobody cares about who gets the credit.”-Robert Yates. I believe in team. I believe when everyone works hard it doesn’t matter who gets the credit because there is no better feeling than winning. I believe my team works hard and encourages one another. I believe that every single one of us wants to be the best. So we work hard to get there. My coach tells us “by pushing each other, you are making yourselves and others better. So the outcome is an overall better team.”
I believe our coach has faith in us and knows what we can do. He sees us as a Loyal, Observant, Visual, Intense, Never Giving In Team, and I’m LOVING IT. I believe he wants to make us the best we can be, and I believe we all try our hardest and give it our everything. I remember at the end of one of our very close games I was exhausted, but I really wanted to play. However, I knew that I wouldn’t be able to give as much as a teammate that was fully recovered. I accepted that so I happily cheered and helped the best I could from the sideline. I then realized that I didn’t have to be on the floor to be a part of a winning team. I believe that hard work in practice pays off in games.
I believe that by agreeing to take part in a team such as basketball you are giving yourself up as an individual and becoming a part of something greater. I believe that from the time I step into the gym until the time I step out, that I am no longer just a teenager doing, mostly, what’s best for myself, but instead I become a teammate, that has to do what’s best for my team. I believe this could mean anything from running or defending until I am exhausted, to encouraging and cheering my team from the sideline. I believe every teammate is important as well as every position. Basketball is a physical and mental sport, you have to be willing to do what ever it takes, and teamwork is key. This I believe.
