Books Tell You Everything

Books are the thing that I most believe in; they tell you everything. Books can be written about anything, so therefore can represent all aspects of life, and are the connection to everything. They are written about history, non-fiction, and many different forms of fiction. They can be biographical or autobiographical. They can be used as a resource, such as an encyclopedia or a dictionary. Being a believer in books makes me take in all the meaning of what I’m reading, as well as the meaning of a book as a whole.

Books themselves represent lots of things. Books often symbolize knowledge, and, in truth, the reader learns a great many things from the books they read, no matter how simple they may appear. Some, like a good fantasy book, are just a means to get away from the world; to take a break from all the craziness around you so you can get a chance to relax. Others, however, are used for evil, like textbooks and workbooks. Most, thankfully, are a great way to escape from the pressure of life.

Having a favorite book or book series isn’t just saying “I love this book because it’s cool”. A person having a favorite book has great meaning because they can like the book for many different reasons. They can like it for the ideals that come from it, or maybe they like the fact that it shows something about their religion, or perhaps they just like the style of writing the author uses. As for me, my favorite book is Faith of the Fallen by Terry Goodkind. I really love this book for several reasons. One, the story line of the book series is a very good fantasy with a great many ties to reality. Two, every book in his series has a philosophical phrase he reveals at one point that is very true in today’s world, and the one from this book means a lot to me because it makes a lot of sense. It is as follows: “Your life is yours alone, rise up and live it.” I love this quote so much because of how deep it can get in you. The idea that my life is my life and I can choose what to do with it means a lot to me. The fact that no one else controls it is a good feeling, and I am grateful for Goodkind showing this to me.

Books are also a great way to find out something about the writer. A writer usually displays their focus on things in the world from their books. The author might show the religion they prefer, they could reveal their political views, or maybe stress certain world issues. Either way you can find out something about them from their books. In Faith of the Fallen Terry Goodkind expresses his ideals as an objectivist. Although I’m not entirely familiar with objectivism, I think that most of its principles make a lot of sense.

Reading a lot of books can be very important if someone wants to be a good writer. Almost all of my reading has helped me with writing essays or short stories when I’m assigned one. To read a book and understand its writing helps in immense ways when writing. Reading books expands your vocabulary, improves your grammar, and might even help with speaking out loud for when you speak to a group. Writing, even though it’s not one of my favorite things to do, has come a lot easier to me because of all of the books I have read.

Books are one of my favorite things in the world. They have given me so many things in life. They have given me time to relax, an advantage in my unsuccessful career in English class, some light into what other people believe in, and a pastime that I will have for the rest of my life. Books are my life. This, I believe.
