I believe in music and its power, how music can stay with you the rest of your life. Music is the way a toddler enjoys sharing what he learned. It is the made-up song of a preschooler and her pride in singing it for you herself. It is that special song that reminds us of one we love. Music joins us together in emotional and memorable times. When we rejoice music helps us celebrate. When we cry music soothes our soul. Music is able to transcend cultures, and societies. It stays with us through the ages.
Music always finds a way to nourish us and make us feel good. Music helps us bring out the feelings we feel deep inside. My parents always talk about “their” song and how it played when they first met. It’s an old Vietnamese song so I don’t know the song title but it is pretty special to them. “It brings back precious memories, and puts us back in time”, they would say. I myself often think of old friends or old memories when I listen to a certain song. When I listen to “The Great Escape” by All-American Rejects, I think of my freshman year because of a music video I made using the song. It was a great year, and this song always evokes my memories.
Music always had a connection — between the creator, the performer and the audience. Music allows you to connect to all sorts of people and memories, some you don’t think about all the time. In my life I have grown up around music. My parents sang constantly around us and with us, even in the car. One of my favorite little child memories is singing songs off our Disney CD with the family in the car on our way to church. Now every time my little sisters watch Disney, or sing, I just smile and reminisce.
My grandmother always spoke about how strong music can put you in a different place. She tells stories about her farming days and how all the farmers would chant old folk songs. Whenever she hears the folk songs she relives the moments on the rice field. Music brings back the good and maybe bad memories in your life. My grandmother would always tell me, “It’s like an escape, and you just lose yourself in it”.
Music is important is everyone’s life. Life without music would be unbearable. I feel like it makes me alive, something I’m passionate for. Not only is it able to spread a message and reach people, but it also makes people happy. With the power of music, everyone has the ability to reach across and send a message. Music is the most powerful thing; it allows you to relive memories.
