I believe young children of any age should experience sports. Sports fill children’s time and encourage physical activity. I think these are important for all children to experience.

I believe that it is important to keep children involved in activities to fill their time. Children who do not stay active have a higher risk of getting in trouble, having issues with social skills, and have a higher risk of obesity. My siblings and I have been involved in sports starting at the age of three. I have participated in playing soccer, volleyball, basketball and softball. I feel that having had the opportunity to play several different sports has given me the chance to find one sport that I enjoy and am good at. While playing these sports I have made many friends and learned how to interact socially with many different types of people. Many of these friends I would never have had a chance to meet if I hadn’t played the various sports with them. My friends that do not participate in sports have fewer friends and spend more time at home than my friends who are participating in sporting activities. Even after the sporting season is over, I still interact with these friends. I feel that if I hadn’t met them playing sports I would have fewer friends and more time to fill.

In today’s society there is a rising rate of obesity, especially in children. Keeping children active is one way to keep them in shape. Playing sports keeps them busy with less time to watch TV or play video games. They are out exercising and having fun while doing it. While I am not playing sports I tend to watch more TV and become much less active. I don’t feel as healthy or in shape when I am not playing sports. When I play sports I am not only being active at practices and games, but I also come home and continue to play these sports outdoors with my friends and family.

When I play sports with my family we ussually play at the park near my house. During softball/baseball season we play a mini game. We also do this with many other sports, like soccer and baseketball. I also play with my family by helping my sister practice and get ready for softball season because it is her first year playing.

Sports have made a huge impact on my life and in my sibling’s lives. I feel that being in sports has given me something to do, something to look forward to, and has helped to keep me active. I feel that if others experience sports they would be more active and make many new friends.
