I believe in a true friendship between man and an animal. By growing up there were no friends anywhere near me. I wanted a friend, so I asked my mom to get me a dog. My mother didn’t want to have any animals at the house, but under my pressure she finally gave in. I’ve got a puppy that was a Newfoundland. She became my best friend, who I am so proud of, and she became a great friend to others as well. I didn’t realize that a dog could have so many qualities that even some people don’t have.

Sensitivity was one of the things my dog had. I was in tears. I went to my mom for help, but she didn’t help me. I sat on the floor and started to cry. Suddenly I felt a warm breathing into my ear; then, I realized it was my dog that was making crying sounds along with me. When my tears turned into laughter, my heart was healed by her right away.

The other quality that my dog had, was her williness to risk her own life in order to save mine. It was a hot day, and I went fishing with my friends. That day fishing wasn’t going too well, so we decided to swim in a calm river. It didn’t seem deep to me, and I went for a swim. The last thing I knew my feet were unable to touch the bottom of the river. The water current was very fast, and I was taken by it into the rough waters. My dog jumped in and pulled me on shore. She was madly barking at me, and it appeared to me she was very upset, which she had all the right to be.

Caring for people was one of her greatest qualities. Once in a middle of the night robbers broke into the factory. A security guard, who was an older man, attempted to stop them, but the robbers hit him in the head. The security guard fell down on the ground, and his wife, who was with him, ran for help. The robbers saw her running and went after her. Charah, my dog, jumped out of the dark and bit them a couple of times. When the robbers were cornered, my dog was sitting by them, growling and did not allow them to get up. The police arrived and the robbers were taken into custody. The injured guard spent a week in a comma, but because of the bravery of my dog, the guard and his wife lived. That day she became a hero.

There are so many things I appreciate about my dog Charah. I appreciate her kindness, patience, understanding and most of all her being my best friend for a full twelve years.Charah died in her sleep, but she is still living in memories of the people she once touched. I do believe in a special friendship between people and animals.
