As my friend sat there drowning in her own tears, I could not help feeling useless about myself. Sadness loomed around her as she recalled the images of her broken past. As I stared in her eyes, I started to see the memories unfold as the scares retook its form. Never had she shared her pain and sorrow to a human being. She decided to let loose of her emotions to a close friend. I sat there listening to the story, pained and grieved that she, my very own friend is a victim of physical abuse. She hated him, and hated everything he did. Every time he came home, drunk and mad, she would always look into his eyes with shame. She knew of nothing but hatred, for all she knew, he was the only one causing her to hate the person she was. After many years of trying to hide the truth, she finally came out and told me about her painful past. I believe that love can overpower pain and hatred.
This past Valentine’s Day, my friend received something she had once longed for. She received a card, with only four words, stating: I’m sorry-Love Dad. After seeing that, she immediately started to cry. Not because of the pain, but because of the happiness that overwhelmed her. I believe that love can overpower anything. After all the emotional and physical pain my friend went through, she forgave all her father’s wrong doings because of the love she had for him. After that day, all I’ve seen is smiles crossing her face. I’m happy that the love she had for him was great enough to forgive everything he did wrong, bringing them happiness and joy.
Love is an important contribution to the world. Without love, there would not be any peace, but only chaos and destruction. The world is made up of love, and without love, nothing would be the way it is. Though I will never really understand all the aspects of love, I know I will one day face something powerful in my life. Love has taught everyone so much, not only my friend and I, but everything that shapes the life around us. Love will always have a greater power than anything we know in life. I believe that love can overpower pain and hatred.
