Never Too Late To Learn
I am 44 years old and just starting my education. I was married at 18 and our first child came two years later, then two years after that our second son arrived. I was a stay home mom. I was in nursing school when I found out I was pregnant with the first child. My husband and I made the decision for me to stay home and raise the kids. So, I dropped out of school and became a full time mother.
Now in 2010 I am going back. Both kids are out of college. Now it is my turn. What a shock I had when I went back, 23 years ago the teachers were the only ones with a computer on their desk now you have to have a computer to keep up with class. What is it with the social web sites? There is a girl in my chemistry class that told me one morning that she was on twitter. I got real quiet and thought, I hope she gets help for that. I thought it was a new drug I have not heard of before. Then, after asking around I found out that it was a social web site. I was so glad I did not try an intervention with her that morning.
Just going back to school was an education. I found out that college kids today are really accepting of the older student. If it was not for them I know I would not have made it through my first week. I did not know where anything was and they were so great taking the old lady in and helping me find my way on campus and around the World Wide Web. I have made a new friend in school and she is 25. Normally you would not think that two people with such an age difference would have anything in common but she is just starting her family and I have raised my so we help each other out, you see she knows all about computers and I know about raising kids. I found out that you are really never too old to learn. I am now in school to become a Medical Laboratory Technologist. With a little luck and a lot of prayers I might make it.
