Take a look at our world. With all the hustle and bustle our society is involved with, the world we live in is nothing more than a hive of busy bees working all day. Go to school, go to practice, go to work, clean the house, go to rehearsal, do your homework, go to a meeting, do this, do that, go home and go to sleep. With all of these things in our lives, sometimes we travel through life without thinking of anything at all. Similar to that of a chicken with no head, we run and run aimlessly. I believe in slowing down. I believe that in a busy life, one must take a chance to relax. I believe in appreciating the simple pleasures in life – those of which can only be experienced when someone isn’t rushing off or worried about getting something done.
I have spent most of my high school career hurrying from activity to activity. My life has comprised of nonstop running from here to there, to do this and that. It has taken me this long to learn that life shouldn’t be all about rushing around. I have run myself ragged doing things I may or may not have enjoyed. For two and a half years I have gone to school and then right to practice. I would then come home a great deal of homework and after finishing would have no time for anything but sleep. I have had little time to slow down, but now, I believe in stopping and taking a look around. I believe in doing absolutely nothing for a while. I believe in going outside and sitting in the green grass and when night comes, looking up into the stars without a care in the world – Sitting next to a warm fire on a cold day – enjoying breathtaking foliage during the fall season, and then jumping into a pile of fallen leaves.
I believe that simple things bring much joy in someone’s life. If we don’t take time to slow down and appreciate these simple pleasures, we will go our whole lives without knowing them. The way a bird sings, a beautiful sunset, how warm sand feels beneath your feet, the smell of freshly baked cookies, or watching the snow fall. A person can’t experience any of these simple pleasures without taking the chance to slow down and enjoy them. I believe that as people, there isn’t much time to live and I believe that the time we do have shouldn’t be all about work. I believe in slowing down. I believe that everyone should stop being so concerned with doing this and that and learn to take it easy and appreciate the beautiful world that we live in.
