The Inside Scoop
I believe you have to enjoy life because some things only happen once. In fourth grade I had a lot of friends. One of them was Austin, who I met because he is on my baseball team, and he is the son of Ricky. Ricky was a famous wide receiver for the St. Louis Rams.
I went to the last home game that year when the Rams played the 49ers. I heard rumors that Ricky might be traded to Carolina, so I thought this might be my last time to see Austin. He went to the game because, well, his dad is on the football team. The Rams played like they were stone, with no life and no energy. For all of you sport’s fans lets compare the first half of the game that night like the 0-16 Detroit Lions and the 49ers like the Super Bowl Champion Pittsburg Steelers. We got to Austin at halftime when it was about 31-10 49ers. I thought for sure that the Rams were going to lose. I stayed anyway so I could sit with Austin. Then the second half started and the two teams reversed roles from the first half. The final score was Rams 42, 49ers 38.
Then I had one of the best times in my life. I GOT TO GO IN THE RAMS LOCKER ROOM! I got to meet all of the players such as Marc , Marshall, and Torry, who gave me $20 for absolutely no reason, and Ricky. I saw the media crowding all over all of the players and asking stupid questions. But when it comes to my opinion the best part of the night, which was 7 hours long, was when Austin took my friend and I to see his dad. We talked a little bit, and then he took off his two receiving gloves and gave one to me and one to my friend. It was one of greatest things that ever happened so far in my short 8 year life. I still have it in my secret hiding spot right now. I was so pumped and when I got home at around midnight I didn’t want to go to sleep, I just wanted to do that again.
I look back on that awesome night and I realize that I had a once in a lifetime opportunity. Unless I am a football player, and knowing myself I probably won’t be a professional football player, I won’t be able to do that again. That was one of the greatest experiences of my life so enjoy it. When you have that moment like I did just soak it all in because that experience is something that you will remember for the rest of your life. The next time I have a big experience, hopefully I get another one, and I am going to soak it up because that way it will.
Unfortunately, the rumors were true, and at the end of the season Ricky got traded to Carolina, and I never saw Austin again. I guess I also learned that while you enjoy life, enjoy it with the people you care about or the people you love. Maybe, just maybe you won’t be able to enjoy life with that one person forever. So live today, and think that tomorrow you’re going to die!
