This I believe, I believe the glass is half full! I often see negativity even when trying to be only positive. It seems that society has put expectations and standards of living so high that most people feel if they don’t come out of things in first place that they have failed and should give up. I find my self watching people put so much energy into things that seem to be really important to them, yet when something doesn’t work out quite right it is cause for them to just quit and give up.
For example, recently I’ve been visiting colleges trying to decide which would be a best fit for me from both an athletic standpoint because I plan to play football, and from a learning standpoint because I know I need a good education to succeed in life after college I came across a coach. As that coach and I talked a topic popped up that would serve later to be plenty of persuasion for me to not attend that college. The topic was over most obviously football, but in detail it involved a set of offensive plays that their football team had been trying to incorporate in the offense for almost two years. The coach seemed very enthusiastic about his plays and he had many explanations of things like extra practice, special play books, and long focusing discussions that he and the team had invested their time in to make these plays work. Yet the thing I remember most was at the end of his energetic bout, It was when he said that after all that hard work he had decided this year they would not be using those plays or trying to learn those plays because the few times that they did one little thing or the other didn’t go right. This to me is a very negative outlook and was almost un-believable because although they worked so hard they could just give up on something because it didn’t always go right. I believe the glass is half full and that philosophy of quitting will just not work.
It seems to me the only way to success is through persistence, and looking at things in a positive manor is just simple logic. To do something right you must commit yourself and give full effort to obtain a satisfying result.
I often relate close football games to the phase, is the glass half full or half empty. When I look back to the close games I’ve played I think of games both won and lost, it is a case of hind sight twenty – twenty. The team who always wins, is the team that takes the good things out of the bad and recovers quickly with a positive attitude. I realize that believing in the glass being half full has helped me overcome obstacles in my way to success. I believe the glass is half full!
