This I Believe
This I believe: We are One. If you look deep inside yourself, at some point you reach a depth where you and I are part of the same One. Call it soul, spirit or God, it’s not just identical, it is the same One.
This I believe: Change is Good. There are many corollaries; I am insatiably curious, I will never grow old, this too shall pass, are just a few. If I’m not learning, I’m not living. Ultimately it is all about flow; energy must move. If I tap into the flow of energy in the Universe, I am part of God and alive with possibilities; change is the result.
This I believe: Everyone should live in another country for at least a short time. Not just a vacation, though that begins the process of opening your eyes to the smallness of Planet Earth. The most important lesson is not that other countries are better than your own, but that everyone, everywhere is the same. We want our children to be safe and happy, and to be with us forever.
This I believe: Think cosmically, act locally. It always comes back to neighbor helping neighbor; friend helping friend. In times of need, you can only turn and help the person next to you. The bigger the tragedy, the more this is true. Giving money to help is fine, but limited. To truly make an impact, you have to be there. Pay attention, big tragedy happens on your street, too.
This I believe: I don’t create my world; I create my response to my world. Things happen. I don’t control that. But with the meaning I attach to events and the choices I make in how I respond, I focus on either the good or the bad. If I believe something will always turn out bad, I may act as if it already is bad, I may act defensively and force it to go bad, or I may misinterpret something and perceive it as bad when it isn’t yet. Most people make these choices unconsciously. My goal is to be conscious of these choices.
This I believe: Act as if. I create my responses to reality, and if I ‘act as if’ something is already true, it will soon be. We are creatures of habit if we are acting unconsciously, and if I create a habit by acting, it creates a better, happier me, at least until such time as I become conscious enough to not have to trick myself.
This I believe: Any job is good. A corollary: to serve increases flow, and brings me more in touch with God. Any job can be done with grace and compassion. Any job allows me to impart some of my energy to the Cosmic Flow and I reap energy as a result.
This I believe: We are One. Life’s all about loving each other.
