I believe in being high. I think it is one of the greatest feelings in the world, and the rush it gives you can help you can accomplish more things than you ever thought imaginable. I believe that the absolute best way to get high in life is through your running shoes. When you tie your laces and head out the door, your journey begins. I have become a believer in the runner’s high.
I have been through some obstacles in my life that at times felt higher than mountains. I have had times when I thought the work was to much, the load was to heavy and the circumstances were to unbearable. That was, until I put on my shoes and went. When I am running, my mind begins to clear and my thoughts run free. I can put my worries behind me, focus on the road ahead and leave everything behind. While most times our struggles cannot disappear after we run a few miles, many times we can approach them in a more focused and dedicated way than we ever could before.
Picture yourself swamped with life’s demands, feeling as if you will never accomplish all your tasks and tackle all your goals. We have all been there and felt that feeling. Instead of becoming frustrated and making excuses, there is one thing we can do that will make us feel better. We can put on our shoes and go. There is one thing that will vitalize your mind, make you more alert and make you feel like a completely different person. There is one thing that will elevate your mood and transform your view. That is a runner’s high, and that is what I believe in.
Running is a lot like life. Sometimes you get cramps in your side and feel winded and want to stop. Sometimes in life you run into a wall and become lost in a struggle. When you reach that stage, the best thing to do is keep on going. After a while, your pain will decrease and you will continue to run and face new struggles as in life. Cars pull in front of you, people you love pass away. You become thirsty and in need of water, or you run into financial struggles. Regardless of the difficulty you face, I have learned that like in running, you must keep your head high and fight through struggles.
I believe in being high. Anyone can obtain one of the most incredible feelings in the world by just tying a pair of tennis shoes and going. Once you head out the door, a journey awaits you; a journey that will change your entire perspective. I believe in the runner’s high.
