I believe that the Olympics are a tremendous event that unites the world and we should have more events of that quality and significance. During every Olympics, the world comes together to participate and compete in athletic events on the greatest stage in the world. While these events are ongoing, the world is completely focused on the nature of the games and not on any global conflicts that are occurring.
When I was only seven years old, I was watching the Olympics like any other person in the world, and I just started to think. I realized that as I was watching the 200m track preliminaries, that, there weren’t any wars or global arguments going on. The whole world was focused on this one race to determine the final race, and there was no thought of anything else. Everyone was rooting for their own country, but didn’t care if the other countries won either. I realized that for the two weeks that had the Olympics span, the world is rooting for the world to win the Olympics. They just want someone to win and they are happy whatever the outcome is. It brings back the hope of there to be world peace, and I believe with more of this type of events, we can achieve that shining medal of world peace. As I began to realize the importance of the Olympic games, the thought of world peace became more realistic. With more events like that resemble the same prominence and importance of the Olympic games, this world would be connected like never before. During the 2000 summer games in Sydney, Australia, the beginning of the 21st century, our planet can unite as one. That year, I watched every single Olympic event, even down to ping-pong and weight lifting. I couldn’t get over the sensation that the world was united as one and came together every two years just to watch all the countries on the planet compete in events on the grandest of stages. I love the Olympics and all the hype and excitement that it brings to the host nation and the whole world. I believe with more events like the Olympic games, our world can achieve the ultimate accomplishment; complete world peace and satisfaction.
