About ten years ago my Mom was in a car accident. She was hit head on by a drunk driver about 2 miles from our house. I remember that night like it was yesterday. It was about 2 AM when my Dad got a phone call from her. She told him that she had just got into an accident and that an ambulance was on the way to take her to the Emergency room. My Dad quickly woke me up and we drove over to the scene. He went to find my Mom while I stayed in the car.
I remember sitting there wondering what was going on and wondering if my Mom was alive. I then began to panic and cry. I kept thinking of what life would be like without her. I didn’t know what I was going to do without her here with me. After what seemed like 5 hours my Dad came back and said that we were going to follow the ambulance to the hospital. The car ride there was silent. I was too nervous to ask about her state, I didn’t want to know if she was dying I just wanted to see her. When we finally reached the hospital we went inside and a nurse took us to the room that she was in. When we walked in, there were many nurses around her. She saw me and smiled and said hi sweetie. At that moment I felt a great sigh of relief come over me.
The nurses told us that she was going to be ok, she just had to stay for a few weeks to recover and she had to have some surgeries to fix her broken eye socket and nose. Ever since that night I thank everyday that she is with us. I believe now that you must appreciate the important people in your life, because one day they could not be there when you really need them. That incident makes me thankful for having my family in my life. It also makes me appreciate the loved ones that I have with me. That night made me think of what my life would be without her, and to this day I am thankful that she is still here with us. I could not imagine what my life would be without my Mom. She is not only my Mother, she is my best friend.
