I believe that beer is better than wine. I believe this for a variety of reasons. Beer is a much more complex drink than wine, In wine making there are two main components-quality of grapes and the barrels they are aged in, where in beer there are many more variables that can be utilized in the brewing process. You can add hops, malt, different yeasts and sugars, fruits and myriads of other things. Due to this there are tens of thousands of different beers in the world. I believe wholeheartedly that people who say they don’t like beer just haven’t found a beer they like yet. I firmly believe that beer is better than wine because it so much cheaper and easier to try the best beers in the world. I have tried 4 of the current top 10 beers in the world and they run no more than 20$ a bottle at the very highest, while one of the best wines in the world would be prohibitively not only for a college student but most people around the world. Contrary to popular belief beer is not any worse for you than wine serving for serving, most people just drink more beer than wine and thus gain the eponymous “beer belly.” I believe that not only is beer better than beer it also helps local economies more than wine. In the U.S. alone there are more than 1500 craft, local and microbrewers. My personal experiences with local brewers and breweries have been overwhelmingly positive. Brewers love to talk and help educate people about the brewing process and the art of brewing. These are all reasons that I believe that I will one day open and own my own brewery.
