I have been born into this fast-paced and imperfect world. I know the reality that life is unfair, and the fact that the world does not seem to care if I fail or succeed. However, I also know the joys and happiness brought about through friendship. I believe that friends are the angels in my life that work with me every single day, to help me become better than what I could be on my own. Friends are the comfort during sadness, the smiles during happiness, and the best critics that I will ever know. They see me for what I am, not for what the world says I should be. And most importantly they love me no matter what.
Friends are the strength I need to pull me through the roughest times of my life. When my grandpa was diagnosed with cancer, I needed a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen. My friends were there for me. During times of sadness, guilt, regret, and shame, they do not judge me, or expect me to be stronger than what I am. Nor do they watch from a distance, and say they don’t have time to listen. They will simply stand with me, right along side me, to bear the burden of my pain. I continually lean on my friends for support, and when a hard day comes to an end, I just have to remember that my friends are always there for me.
Friends are also the joy of my life. They are the ones that can make me laugh until I cry. The ones that can make me smile the kind of smile that nothing can damper. I cherish those times when I burst out laughing in the middle of the day over something that happened last week with my friends. And those times that I have stayed up all night, talking for hours on end about absolutely nothing, yet still feeling entirely fulfilled afterward. A friend’s smile and laughter are memories that will never be forgotten. And the happiness brought about through their friendship, is something that I will feel for the rest of my life.
Most importantly, friends are the ones that care enough about me, to let me know when I am wrong. They are the angels sent from heaven to polish me until I shine. Through thoughtful and gentle words of wisdom I see the world through a different set of eyes. And their disappointment in some of my behaviors motivates me to become better. Friends will push me to succeed, and expect me to rise to the occasion. They are the world’s toughest critics because they know so much about me. But they bring about the best in me, helping me to become more than what I could be on my own.
Friends are a gift that is cherished until the end. Although, one of the best things about friendship, is that the bond and the memory are there forever. With college soon approaching, and my friends leaving to different parts of the country, I believe that no matter the distance or the time of separation, friendship can always be rekindled. A friend is someone that we will always be able to turn to, even if it seems to have been a lifetime. Love your friends, and always know that they are simply angels, brought into our lives to help us become better people than what we could be on our own.
