Does it bother you when newer stuff that should last for a long time doesn’t even last a year? Like when you buy a new car you think since its new you won’t have any problems with it but then out of no where you start having problem after problem. I’m not saying all new cars are like this but there are many that are. So this is why I believe in durability, longevity and good ol’ American muscle.
In the old days, when people would build them to make them last. It wasn’t all about the money that they were making. It was about making something to last because that is what you think is important, not to build as many as you can in one day so that you can get them out on the lot and sell them to make money so you can go buy big expensive things. It was about making something last. It wasn’t all about the money that they made it was about making something to last. the old “classics” are durable and they will last forever if you take care of them.
One of my friends has a 1946 Chevrolet coupe with a little inline six and a three on the tree. That car is practically bone stock. The only things that he has changed are of course the spark plug wires, plugs, cap, rotor, oil and of course the oil filter. But that is a basic tune up. Well the other day we decided to take her out for a little spin around the neighborhood and oh man does she run good. Now don’t get me wrong it only has a single barrel carburator so it’s not the fastest thing on the planet but it still has nothing wrong with it. And I believe it is because the way it was built back in the day.
When I bought my truck in the summer of 2006 it still had the original spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. My truck is a 1985 F250 and it has a 460 in it married to a four speed. And the only problem I have had with it is the fuel relay switch went out because it wasn’t in the case it should have been so it got wet.
When my dad bought his truck in the fall in 2002 it was brand new. We figured since it was new we would have any problems with it but we were wrong. Since he has had it the tailgate cables, the fuel tank float, has all been recalled within the first two years of owning it. Im not a great mechanic but I know enough to know that it should take longer than that for stuff to start going wrong. Even one of his coils has gone out. This is why I believe in longevity, durability, and good ol’ American muscle.
