Same Sex Marriage

Have you ever felt that every person you walked by was staring at you like you were different? Everyday gay couples go through the traumatizing events of humility by their surrounding communities protesting gay marriage. Marriage is a strong connection of love that should be experience by everyone no matter what their sexual orientation may be. Legalizing gay marriage in California will not only be giving back the citizens their freedom but will also give a boost in confidence to the gay population.

All over the world it is legal for straight couples to marry, it seems absurd to have only two states in America legalizing gay marriage being Vermont and Massachusetts . People come from all over the world to America for many reasons, one very important reason is freedom. How can we say citizens have freedom if you are not allowed to marry whom you choose? My cousin is a member of the gay community and he tells me of many incidents where people have challenged him because he was gay. One day when he was shopping in a super market with his partner, a man saw him wearing a gay pride bracelet. The man told him if he can’t be with a woman he shouldn’t have been born into a world where god intended on man and women to be together. This truly hurt my cousin, he says “why cant people except me for who I am”. It is very common to hear religious beliefs enter the conversation when talking about gay marriage. Some people refer to the beginning of time as “Adam and Eve” not “Adam and Steve”. This statement is very offensive towards gay couples especially if they are religious themselves, because it is not clearly stated in the bible that marriage is only for man and women to share.

“Gay people deserve the same right to marry that everyone else does. Were making the same commitment to each other, we have the same responsibility to each other and we deserve the same rights under the law that every one else has”(Harry Knox of the Human Rights Campaign.) I truly do believe that the gay community is being discriminated against unfairly and the people who are doing this need to learn the concept of respect.

Children in adoption agencies aren’t always fortunate enough to have a loving and caring family. This is another reason why gay marriage is sufficient; they cannot have children leaving adoption as an excellent choice. This benefits both the child and the couple, because the child will get a chance to a great new life with a family, and the couple will have an opportunity to raise a child of there own. If only the world could see gay couples for who they are on the inside, they would have a chance at being truly happy, and we would finally see peace in the gay community.
