Life is Beautiful
I believe life is a beautiful thing and it should be treasured above everything else. Being able to appreciate life for what it is worth can be very hard and may take a long time, but I am fortunate enough to have found a new meaning of life at such an early age. Two summers ago I, along with the rest of Northeast High School, lost a great friend. His name was Kyle and he committed suicide on June 25. On that day, I think we all took a new perspective on life. We all saw life as a hard and bumpy path then because we realized that life can end in the blink of an eye. The loss of Kyle was very hard to handle, but once we realized that we all still had each other, it made it a lot easier. It took a long time to see any good that might have come from this tragedy, but I believe I have found it.
Kyle was the kind of guy who others looked up to. To the naked eye, it seemed Kyle had a wonderful life. He was popular, athletic, and he came from a good family, but he was unhappy underneath it all. But even if someone is unhappy, life should be appreciated above all, because we only get one chance at it. Because of this, life is more meaningful to me now than ever.
What happened to Kyle has opened my eyes and given me a new perspective on life. There are a couple things about life that I have come to learn; life is short and should not be taken for granted, family and friends should come first, and most of all, do not give up. Kyle felt as if he had no other choice but to give up, and no one will ever know why. I saw what that did to the people who loved him, and I can not help but be bitter towards what he has done. I am not saying times will not be tough, but I feel as if there is not an obstacle that I can not overcome. I try to look at each problem in my life as a stepping stone, which will help me get on with the rest of my life. When I come upon much larger problems in the future, I know I will look back and see how small my problems are now. I now have a newfound confidence in my life, and there is not a moment that will pass by me without it being treasured.
No matter what you go through, remember that things will always get better. Kyle hit a rough patch, and he panicked because he thought there was no other way out, but he was wrong. I believe that life is beautiful, for it has amazed me beyond belief. Life can pass you by in the blink of an eye, so my advice to you is, simply don’t blink.
