I believe in a drug free world.
I have enough knowledge to know that tobacco; illegal drugs and alcohol abuse are bad. My grandmother was a smoker; she started at 15 yrs old. She began smoking because all of the movie stars of her day like Katharine Hepburn and Bette Davis smoked on screen. She said it looked glamorous. She smoked until she was 55 years old. She only stopped because she couldn’t breathe at night. She would wake up in the middle of the night unable to catch her breath, she felt like she was suffocating. She smoked for 40 years; she died of lung cancer at 76. I think if she weren’t a smoker she would still be alive today.
My mother’s brother is a bi-polar alcoholic. My grandparents adopted him from an orphanage in Brooklyn, New York. His birth mother drank during the pregnancy. He was born addicted to alcohol. He had the shakes as an infant and cried all the time. They didn’t have a name for it in 1959 when my uncle was born, but it is now called fetal alcohol syndrome. In junior high he got into smoking pot, since marijuana takes away all your initiative, he did even worse in school. All these years later, my uncle is still having problems.
I wonder if his birth mother hadn’t drank alcohol while his brain was forming, maybe he could lead a happier, more productive life. He gets depressed when he thinks about his life; opportunities that he missed, different paths he could have taken, so he drinks. Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant. He drinks and becomes more depressed. It’s a vicious cycle.
I will never do anything to harm me or my friends like driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. When I lived back in Philadelphia, four high school kids got into a car after huffing cans of paint, they hit a concrete divider on Baltimore Pike, just miles away from my house. They all died.
Drugs serve no purpose, but to fill a void in people’s lives.
There are other alternatives to doing drugs. For example, exercise like running, or soccer can release endorphins, natural feel good chemicals in our brains. Playing fetch with your dog is a good way to de-stress; unless of course, your dog is like mine and doesn’t bring back the ball, then chasing the dog can be more good exercise.
In closing, Drugs Will Mess Your Life Up. Look at Britney Spears, how many times has she been in rehab? Now the courts have appointed her Dad as her custodian. She doesn’t even have custody of her children. She is not in control of her own life anymore, drugs are not worth that.
