Little Things Matter Most
“Just my luck,” my dad sighed as we rolled to a stop at a red light. Usually, this wouldn’t have bothered me, but I realized that we just passed about four green lights in a row, but no one got excited about that. I believe that the little things in life make the biggest difference. I believe that appreciating everything, even mistakes and the lessons we learn from them, will make you a better person. I believe that all people should take a few minutes out of everyday just to appreciate what they have.
Last summer, I went camping in the Uintah mountains and realized just how lucky I was to be there. I was about ready to go to bed, and I sat for a minute to appreciate the things around me. The rolling mountains in the distance, the stars shimmering brightly about the horizon, the earthy smell of fresh rain, and the peaceful silence with only the noise of animals rustling in the distance. As I felt the fresh mountain air around me, I realized that I was so lucky to be there and I began my belief of taking only a few minutes of your everyday life to appreciate what you have.
I strive to do this everyday, and I set goals by doing this as well. Some people set extravagant goals, buy strive to do the little things. For example, my goals are to swing in central park, somersault down the Great Wall of China, eat breakfast in Africa, and enjoy a cup of tea in Paris. I believe that everyone should set small goals, one that can easily be achieved and that are fun! I believe the little things matter most. Sir Aurthur Conan Doyle, who you may know as Sherlock Holmes said this: “It has been an axiom of mine that the little things are infinately the most important. I agree with this to the fullest extent.
Buy why the little thing? Do little things even make a difference? I believe that doing little things everyday will put you in the habit of doing something. If you get in the habit of doing things, even if its the smallest thing, than you will get used to looking for them and eventually work your way up to the bigger things.
I also believe that if we were able to live in a world full of people doing little things everyday, than we would live in a world of equality, peace, togetherness, and simple friendship. I realize that this can’t happen overnight, but hey-it all starts with the little things.
