MY TWO TOWERS
My whole life I have wondered what it was like to be at the top of the World Trade Center. To see all of downtown and further, through one square of glass hundreds of feet in the air would be remarkable. Now I can never do this, all because of some terrorist who did not like the United States. Anything that will be close to that experience is not worth it any more. There are still other tall, million- dollar buildings like the Empire State Building where you can have that rush of excitement, but none of it will be like the excitement you get climbing those 1368 feet and those countless steps up to the observatory of the World Trade Center.
The new idea for the reconstruction of Ground Zero may work for other people of New York, but it does not work for me. The new design minimizes the excitement that every little kid that took that elevator ride or climbed those steps experienced. Some people feel that building the new design on ground zero will show terrorists that we are still strong, but I believe that building an exact model of the World Trade Center will show us to be stronger as a nation. To show our strength we should build the same two magnificent towers. Rebuilding will prove our originality and remind us of the original towers. It also says to the rest of the world that we as a nation are not scared and that the towers can be rebuilt with no problem.
Rebuilding the two towers over will allow children of future generations and our inner child to run up those countless steps and look out in to this wonderful city and be proud to say, “This is my New York.”
