I believe that “This I Believe” is solipsistic and dull. I detest these segments and can’t believe that “This I Believe” is popular. It seems like part of a trend in the media, to give the public more “ownership” in the product. From Time magazine’s last Person of the Year, namely, “you”–to YouTube debates on CNN–to local news organizations’ use of reader photos and videos–the trend is everywhere. By using such features, these news organizations hold up a shiny mirror for readers to coo and gurgle at, and they dilute their mission to educate and inform. TPR, you can do better.
