Ever hear that song you cannot help but sing along and dance with? That movie that you could watch a million times and never get sick of? Maybe that joke you cannot help but laugh at? Or maybe just that little compliment that makes your day? Most people seem to over look these small occurrences that happen to us everyday. I believe that the simple things in life are the most important.
My friends and I are pretty inseparable especially on the weekends. We all know how to make each other laugh and have a good time together. It was one of those typical friday nights except all of us were in really bad moods. I couldn’t tell you if was from being tired from a full week of school, if we were upset with each other, or just mad for no reason. We’re often a group of girls who can get along despite the circumstances, but for whatever reason that night was different. After a couple hours of awkward silences, rude comments, and still no plans, the tension only seemed to worsen.
The radio was playing softly in the background when I heard the beginning of the song “Build Me Up Buttercup” by the Foundations come on. Without thinking I jumped off the bed and turned it up as loud as I could and grabbed the hairbrush off the counter. I ran back into the room and started belting out the lyrics while dancing obnoxiously. Before I got to the first chorus my best friends had joined in and we were all laughing, singing, and dancing. Our moods had changed in a split second thanks to something as simple as a song with a good beat and catchy lyrics.
Since that night I’ve been noticing how much the simplest things can have such an impact on someone’s life. I believe that if people start realizing the smaller perks in their lives it can make it more meaningful and fun. These small things can be so simple but at the same time beneficial and life changing.
