I believe that I am a guest

I believe that this planet was not made for me

And I believe that I must live accordingly

I reject the notion that everything on this earth was created for me to use. Not the fruit from the trees, not the animals, not the fossil fuels deep within the earth, nor the other people living up on the Earth.

I believe more than anything else that I was lucky enough to be welcomed on this Earth and that I must act as such.

I had long felt as though I had taken for granted the notion that I am human, therefore everything here was put here for me.

That all changed on day last year upon opening a bottle of Snapple iced tea.

Snapple had a series of bottle caps which proudly displayed “fun facts” on the underside of each cap.

The cap of this bottle stated that “honey bees are the only insect to create food for human consumption”

This proclamation immediately bothered me, for I realized that indeed I, and indeed most everyone goes about our lives truly believing that everything here on this earth was put here for us.

Which I believe is not correct.

I believe that you and I must realize that we are guests here on this earth. We are essentially houseguests, and ought to live accordingly
