“God Works in Mysterious Ways”

Have u ever been in a sticky situation that you knew you could not get yourself out of, and just when you were about to give up, something good happens and you make a vow to never do it again or you would be more careful? I know I have said these words time after time, and I have a feeling I am not by myself. I know there is something that is keeping all of us safe and out of trouble sometimes. I believe God works in mysterious ways.

I started believing that someone was watching over me at the age of six or seven. I know you may be thinking to yourself that is an early age to be thinking about things like that, but there comes a point in your life where you just think about your life and far you have come. I remember being at home on a cool night playing cards on the floor with my brother. My mother was sitting on the couch and my dad was sitting in the recliner watching television. It was just another ordinary night, or so we thought. All of a sudden we heard shooting and people screaming outside. Even at a young age that was nothing new to me, because I heard it practically everyday. Even though the shooting was going on, my brother and I were still playing. I knew something was going on though because my parents got up, I guess to see who it was, but as soon as they got up they started shooting at our house. My dad told us to go to my room because it was in the very back of the house. My brother being the scariest child I ever came in contact with was already in my room. As soon as I got up they shot inside the house and the bullet went right through my parent’s bedroom, then through the bathroom right behind me and I could see my dad telling me to come to him because he was in the kitchen, but It was like I was froze in time or something, because everything was going so slow around me and I could not move, I tried but I stayed right there. Just when I got up the bullet came through the wall, right where I was sitting and landed right there. I finally made it to my dad and he took me to my room to sit with my brother. He was back there just crying and I can remember just looking at him crazy for crying like a little baby, but I was young and did not know any better.

As I look back, I just think to myself how I made it out of that situation. If I would have sat there any longer the bullet would have went through my back. I know it had to be God because no one else, it felt like, could help me. It’s just a mystery how certain things happen. To this day I still do not understand what was going on, because they were shooting at the wrong house anyway. I do not understand why people do the things they do, because it just seems so senseless to me, but I guess it is not for me to understand.

Another incident occurred in 2003 on a sunny day, about three years ago with my cousin Jessica and her two children. We were supposed to be at her mother’s house eating because she invited everyone to eat at their house. Well, my cousin had to go pick her boyfriend up from work and took the children with her. I wanted to go also, but by time I called their house she was already gone. So I just sat at the house with my mother until she was ready to go. A few minutes later my dad’s friend came to our house and knocked on the door and started talking to my father. As soon as they finished talking my dad went to talk to my mother and they told me stay there and do not go anywhere. I asked them what was wrong, but she just told me that they will be back. So, I sat there patiently waiting for them to return and finally there was a knock on the door. I went to go open it and it was my cousin. She looked like she just finished crying and having a nervous breakdown at the same time. She asked where my parents where and I told her I did not know. She was like come with me and I told her I could mot go anywhere and I asked her what was wrong, and that’s when she told me the most devastating news in the world, my cousin had just been in a car accident with the two babies and the babies where dead. I sat there looking at her and her looking at me. I asked her if she was sure that was my cousin and she said yeah. I just stood there and could not believe my ears. I just stood there in disbelief, because what she was telling me was unbelievable. After I told her I could not go she said ok and went looking for my parents. I went back to the recliner I was sitting in and just thought about life in general, because if I were in that car I could have been hurt or dead. The situation was very hard for everyone to handle, but for my cousin I knew she took it the hardest because it was her children.

These two stories were very close encounters for me and for my cousin Jessica and I just know that someone is watching over us everyday of our lives. Even though she lost her two children, she is now happily married with a beautiful baby girl. I know and believe that God works in mysterious ways. I know mysterious things do happen everyday in unexplainable ways, but they seem to help us in the future. Sitting in my room sometimes and just think that it could have been me, but I know when it is time for something to happen it will happen.
