Many American parents tell their children, “You are what you eat” in order to teach the importance of good eating habits. Those parents also try to buy more organic foods and cook with fresh ingredients because literally what their children eat is going to become a part of their body. I completely agree with these parents and I will probably say the same thing to my children. “Baby girl, you are what you eat, what you eat forms the building blocks of your body,” and “these blocks are going to compose your body.”
However, we not only have a physical body but we also have a spiritual body. Therefore, it would be unfair to only emphasize our physical body. Thus, I would like to add an additional phrase regarding our spiritual body, “You are what you believe.” Do you believe in God? Do you believe in equality in color, race, gender, and etc? Do you believe in education? Do you believe in science? As the food you intake gradually builds up your body, the time you use and the activities you do according to your own beliefs will compose your spiritual body. Eventually, what you believe makes who you are.
It does not matter whether your belief is generally accepted in society or not. It does not matter if you believe in a super hero or an alien. If you keep thinking about what you believe, if you study what you believe, and if you spend time on what you believe, eventually people are going to recognize you according to what you believe.
I believe in many things. First of all, I believe in God. Therefore, I think about my Heavenly Father, I study the Bible, and I go to church every weekend and even weekdays. After all, Christianity has become a part of my life and a part of my spirit. Second of all, I believe in the power of action. I always plan a new adventure in sports, and I studied physical education, and I have been pursuing my degree as a doctor of physical therapy. In short, physical movement has become a part of my life and a part of my spirit.
You are what you eat because what you eat composes your body. Likewise, you are what you believe because what you believe composes your life. Thus, choose what you believe carefully. For instance, you should be more careful when you decide what to believe comparing when you choose between organic food and GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) food. As my mother says, you get to use only one body in your life and I also say to you that you get to live only once. Eat healthy food and live with a healthy body and believe in novel ideas and live with a healthy spirit.
