Do you ever feel troubled in this world and feel like you do not belong? Being unhappy can be fixed by your very own mind. Happiness is a state of mind. Coming from the inside, happiness is only something that I can bring upon myself. I used to think that I am happy because others treat me so well, but I realized this is not the case. I am happy because I have a positive outlook on life and see the best in everything. I choose to let things that happen in life affect me for the better, not for the worse. I control the way I think and why I have the thoughts I do. Figuring out that everything happens for a reason helps me remember to be happy. Knowing that I cannot change the past is another thought that gives me relief. I believe that happiness is a state of mind.
Happiness is something that I can only bring upon myself because only I control the way I think. For example, mental toughness brings a stronger mindset making happiness easy to obtain. Mental toughness helps me realize that many things that happen are out of anger, excitement, or a strong emotion that is felt. I do not let little things that happen get to me. An example of these little things would be getting yelled at, or argued with, or even seeing others cry. It’s not that I don’t have feelings; I just feel the need to be strong in tough situation, which results in my being happy.
Having a positive outlook on life makes me unbelievably happy. Also being referred to as seeing the glass half full, I find the best in everything. Seeing negative points in life will never get me anywhere. Focusing on positive points such as getting good grades versus bad, or if my team loses a game I focus on how to fix what we did wrong to apply it to the next game. I focus on getting better and not worse, seeing the good things not the bad. I focus on being happy not sad. I have been in the place when I focus on the bad. I looked for the bad to get motivation and incite and even to make decisions. Soon I had become a very negative person and that was not who I wanted to be. After this episode in my life I had started looking at the bigger picture of things while still showing appreciation to all the small details.
While I having my episode looking at the glass half empty I came across a couple close friends telling me a few things that I will never forget. The first quote that hit home was “everything happens for a reason.” I am now a firm believer in this quote because I do believe in everything happening is happening for a certain reason and will affect my life a certain way. An example would be from little things such as choosing which way to drive somewhere to bigger things like which college I choose to go too. I believe there is reasoning behind everything I do and every decision I make. The second quote would be “don’t let the little things in life control you.” Believing in this quote made life easier because even though I think every little decision happens for a reason, I make sure the ones I worry about most are for the better of my life.
I truly believe that happiness is a state of mind. Looking at the positive parts in life is seeing the best of things and works wonders on happiness. Choosing how things affect me has gotten me a long way. I have learned many valuable lessons in life that have made me a more peaceful happy person. Everything does happen for a reason whether the reason is known or not, and not letting the little things bother me was the best decision I have ever made. I am glad to be going down this path and realizing I know what it takes to make myself happy.
