Learning to hope

“Where is a will there is a way”

To eat bread without hope is still slowly to starve to death. Everybody saw movies about the heroes who save people, survive in the dangerous circumstances or do something unbelievable. The public admires them but just thinks that they are supermen and can do anything. I believe that each of us is a superman but he does not know about it. People do not even guess that they have such simple things as will and hope. Everything is in our hands. We should never give up and in this way we will be a success.

I have not accomplished a feat in the sixteen years of my life but I had a chance to prove my belief.

I’ve always been active and curious and I enjoy exploring the world around me. As a little girl when I went to school in Russia I was dreaming to travel and even to live in another country and get familiar with foreign culture.

Every year a specific competition takes place in my country. After a number of tests and compositions in English, the top ten students are sent to the USA. I can’t express my desire to win at that time. I was so nervous, I had once tried and I failed. Then I told myself “I’ll do it. I won’t lose another opportunity!” I studied English hard all year long. I spent a tremendous number of hours learning new words and grammar. This year I competed with 450 students. My chance was 1 to 45. Anyway, I did it and now I am here in the US. I still do not believe my luck.

Developing the traits of responsibility and self-confidence helps a lot if we want to win or at least achieve something. That seems impossible, nobody will do it for us. For example, there are a lot of people who gain weight very quickly. They suffer and they think it is fate to blame. Some of them use different diets and do exercises to keep fit. But they look in the mirror and discover that they didn’t change. So they give up. Nothing can help them any more. But if they work harder and spend more time on themselves they will definitely see positive results.

When I fail I try not to lose my head and be in despair. I try, try, try again until it works. Of course, I feel the support of my parents and friends who help me not to be discouraged. I feel that I can not give up after the first attempt. The main difficulty in such situations is to make myself do something. I like the feeling that it was me who achieved the certain goal. It is a kind of thrill for me, some special candy.

There is no such word as “I can’t” there is a phrase “I don’t want”. People’s determination can change the world. I strongly believe in human’s race, its will and the power of hope. I respect personalities who are strong in their mind. They try not to be afraid to stumble in the dark because hope lights their way. Is this a secret of person’s success?
