Dedication and determination is one thing I need to become successful. The “mommy can you help me,” “If I can do it, you can too,” and God allowing me to see it through another day to keep thriving for success. Becoming successful was not something that I woke up thinking about when I was a kid, walking up and down 34th street with my friends through rain and snow, partying all night was my main concern; this all started at a very young age too. When I hit 11th grade my life started to change. Some say it changed for the better and some say my life would go downhill. I always thought, who are they to determine my future? The late nights doing homework, making sure my kids are fed and asleep, thinking about the way my mother has done things to overcome her mistakes and become successful.
Watching my mother who was an addicted and alcoholic, made me wonder about my lifestyle as a child to adult hood. I have two older siblings, my goody good older sister DeAndrea and my rebellious older, but middle child, brother Jeffery who everyone calls JJ. We were living in a small town called Hopkinsville Ky., a very small community, who everyone is family, and some people seem to get lost in the surroundings of their environment. My mother moved to Louisville to leave Hopkinsville addicting life style, her addiction started consuming her more than she could handle, so she moved away and tried to get help. Going from rehab center to rehab center she felt that she was able to get clean on her own. Don’t get me wrong many people can do it, but she needed more help. It took a couple more years before she got back on track. She went to the Healing Place 3 days before Christmas because she had become tired of being tired; she was gone a week prior to that. I will never forget her standing in that window, the snow falling from the sky and the ground was covered in snow. She looked like an angel standing there because she wanted to become successful. 10 years down the line my mother has been clean and sober, she has recently started her own business doing something that she loves. I have seen her start from the bottom and slowly make her way up to the top and became successful. She also taught me to become successful for not just self, but for those who look up to me as well.
Watching my mother strive for better, so I could have better, made me strive for better for my children too. I have four children and I want them to see me make something out of myself so they know that it is possible. I want my children to know firsthand, right in front of them somebody that came from struggles, and hard times have applied themselves and became successful. Becoming successful for my children brings so many reasons why I have no other choice because they are my children and any mother wants what’s best for their children. When my kids ask me to help them, I want to say “Ok baby what do you need,” I want them to say “Mom I need $150.00 for my school class kit,” and I be able to give it to them without having to see what I have to go without for them to have something that they need. My future is so bright it begins to blind me sometimes, and it it’s all worth it.
God has blessed me with air to breathe and another chance to become successful. I came across death one time and I should have been dead, God had a plan laid out for me and he was not ready for me to leave this world without finishing my mission. I know my future is prone for success because I work hard for my future to make a difference in my life and my kids’ life. With me taking college classes at Brown Mackie to give me and my family a better future, is a part of my second chance God have giving me. Determination and dedication are things that I have installed in my life style because you need both to become successful in life. So for me to show my mother that she has taught me how to become successful , to show my children what it is to be successful and to make sure my future is successful I have to have determination and dedication.
My mother, my children and my future are the three most important things in my life. Without watching my mother way and ways of life I don’t think I would be where I am today. My children are making me feel loved, wanted and needed. It gives me a bubbly feeling that makes me never want to give up. With me believing I am here for a reason, because of my past could’ve kept me from a lot of what I am deserving of my future is successful already determine and dedication is the extra fuel I use to keep me going. Looking at my past, I strive to be nothing but successful.
