I believe in basketball. Honestly speaking I’m not a born athlete; neither did I play well in my “basketball career” on inter-school competitions. Like Michael Jordan once said, “The first thing I would like to tell our teenagers is, enjoy the game of basketball”, and that’s definitely what I have been enjoying all through my life. The charisma of basketball is the purest fun of human impulsion excited by jumping and running, along with the skill of conducting them. To me, something beyond this charisma is its magic to empty my mind, free myself from troubles around me while playing it – till now I really cannot find out a substitution for it.
I believe basketball because of its great unification of all sorts of sports, enclosing all kinds of skills needed for a qualified athlete: explosive running ability of a dasher, endurance of long-distance, and also the coordination and balance of a gymnast. The drastic body contact in basketball game labels it one of the most feral sports, where all my enthusiasm comes from, the enthusiasm to be a real man and the one to subjugate others through the strike of muscles, roaring and yelling. It not only trains me with all aspects of workouts conveniently, but also offers a chance to release myself. As I said before, I really enjoy the process of empty my mind first, then thoroughly unleash my power and fury.
I believe basketball, also due to its great demands for research and team work. NBA is famous for its stars, of course, but one may not experience the huge coaching force behind them, along with statistical analysis conducted by various Think Tanks. Team managers need a great deal of data to study a player and scrutinize its position. Coaches can spend the whole night watching video tapes, preparing defense as well as offense tactics. People know basketball well never expect one hero to consummate the game, and sophisticated players always take advantage of his teammates to play against his opponent. Thus I enjoy the huge, complex system behind the game, studying and discussing it with friends, which is definite a fantastic brainstorm. The system is also favored by thousands of sports editors and commentators.
I believe basketball, just like one grows affection with a loyal friend. Without doubt the first 20 years of my life is intimately attached to this sport. It gives me a community and a unique style of living, saving me from the world brimming with indoor chores. I feel healthier after each game. It also soothes my insomnia, which likes a phantom looming over my college life. Just like a hurt child asking help from his family, I entreat basketball for peace and remedy. Internally I consider basketball alive, like a father or shelter, which I respect with all my heart.
