A persons beliefs, a person’s ideals. These are the things that shape his or her life. They can change how we act around other people, and how we react to new and unique situations. You can tell a lot about a person based off of their beliefs and how they act around others. Everyone develops their beliefs in different ways; some are formed by watching role models and adopting their beliefs, others are forged in fire. If you flip a coin a hundred times, it could always land on heads, or it could never land on heads. Logic dictates that it will land on heads half the time, and tails half the time but luck can change that. I believe that luck influences everything but is a poor substitute for skill, and it’s best when a person makes their own luck. This realization was fostered throughout my life. I enjoyed playing games of luck and skill with others and continued to do so throughout the majority of my life. Games such as Chess and Checkers are entirely skill, with relatively little luck since both players start with the exactly same pieces. Games such Monopoly or Life are more influenced by luck. My forte was skill based games, but games that required luck were my adversary. At one point, I found Risk a game that was equal in both luck and skill, a game that required both aspects to win. All of a person’s hard work, and careful planning could all be brought to an end by the roll of the dice. One unit could be worth ten, all due to the roll of the dice.
Throughout life, I noticed instances of luck everywhere. Small things like the flip of a coin, or the roll of the dice could have unknown ramifications upon someones life. There are large instances of luck that affect a persons life. A woman can have a stroke that ends their life with no precursor to it at all. A father can lose his life to a distracted driver who leaves his loving family behind, while the person at fault walks away without a scratch. Anyone can be diagnosed with a disease and another person could’ve never been sick in their life. Regardless of if its real life or just a game, a person can win everything or lose it all, due to luck.
The major problem with luck, is that luck is fickle, never around when it is needed. A lucky day might come around once in a blue moon, and then never happen again. When luck abandons a person, all they have left is your wits, quick thinking, and skill. This relates to all aspects of life, luck is a great thing to have, but you want to make sure that it isn’t the only thing you have.
