Should there be standards on who certain people should love? Is there a specific relationship that is viewed upon as “perfect”? I believe that everyone should be able to love who they want. Love is limitless. I believe that people should have the right to walk down the streets holding hands with the person they love, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, or appearance. Love’s purpose is to promote happiness, and to deprive a person of this joy is simply unethical.
My gay uncle always bombards me with stories about his life when we see each other every few years. He says that with his new boyfriends, he gets stares as he walks down the street or when he is out to dinner. In contrast to the anger I felt, he didn’t seem upset at all. I questioned why he was so okay with the way certain people acted and he simply responded saying, “I’m happy, and that’s all that matters. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion whether I agree or disagree with it. But I know that I’m happy.” These touching words made me realize that love exists in all different ways in this world. People are gay, straight, asexual, pan-sexual, bisexual, and more. I believe that every person in this world has someone out there who they are meant to be with.
Although I am no expert on relationships, I know that happiness is happiness, and no one in this world should have to defend why they are in love with another person. A Brazilian author once stated, “One is loved because one is loved. No reason is needed for loving.” Love is not choice, it just happens. So why should people be allowed to dictate who is labeled the “right” person?
Love perseveres. If two people like each other, regardless of sex, love will find a way to make it work. There is no set definition for “love.” This leaves a door open for however people would like to interpret the meaning. There was a study illustrating that love provides more happiness than money. Love is important and it is essential that each person in this world has the chance to experience it. People should be able to flaunt their relationships and interest for each other. Love should be envied and worshiped, not discriminated against. After all, love is love.
