I believe that making your own decisions is important. “You cannot manage your life if you do not manage yourself. You cannot manage yourself if you do not manage your choices. Manage your choices, and you will manage your life” (Dr. Shad Helmstetter). Some people don’t understand that, “No one else can ever make your choices for you. Your choices are yours alone. They are as much a part of you as every breath you will take, every moment of your life” (Dr. Shad Helmstetter). You have to make decisions, or you can’t live.
“Choosing to live your life by your own choice is the greatest freedom you will ever have” (Dr. Shad Helmstetter). Don’t let others control your life. If you let others control your life, you’ll never be able to do what you want to accomplish in life. If you let others make your decisions, you aren’t living your life, but someone else’s. By not making your own decisions, you aren’t able to live as you want to live.
“Another person’s choice is nothing more than another alternative for you to consider” (Dr. Shad Helmstetter). There are people who restrain from making their own decisions because they fear the outcomes. If someone else makes their decisions for them, they are able to either claim the awards or place the blame on others. Instead of going off of a suggestion, you have to learn to pick and choose.
Part of making decisions is making mistakes. I believe that making mistakes is a part of life that is inevitable. Through mistakes, people learn and grow. If you don’t like the outcomes of your decisions, change your decisions.
“If you were given only one choice: To choose or not to choose, which would you choose?” (Dr. Shad Helmstetter). I can’t even begin to describe how much better your life would be just by being able to choose. It wouldn’t be perfect, but if you were to choose, you would be freer. You wouldn’t feel cramped; like you’re about to burst. If you couldn’t pick what to do, you wouldn’t have any kind of freedom. You wouldn’t be able to do any of those little things people do on a regular basis.
I believe it is impossible to live without making decisions. You could have someone tell you what to do your whole life, but you still need to make the decision to agree with what you are being told to do. Living life without decisions can lead to you to become lazy and grow accustomed to not making your own decisions.
While making a decision, no matter the seriousness of the decision, you may find yourself indecisive. “If you have to take time to make a choice, take time. Then make the choice” (Dr. Shad Helmstetter). If you are an indecisive person, think about it. Take the time to think everything through. Weigh out all your options before coming to a conclusion. Don’t act impulsively because, most likely, you’ll choose wrong and by the time you want to take back your choice, it’ll be too late.
