Serving our country is something I believe in. I used to hate the idea of people serving our country, especially my family, so when my brother joined the Marines I didn’t know what to think.
At first I was very mad and upset about it. He started training and officially signed the papers to be a recruit. His date to leave was August 8, 2011, our sisters birthday.
The months before he left were hard, but I gradually got used to the fact that he was leaving. My family got closer as we prepared for him to leave. When he left it was really hard on our family and by then we all accepted the fact that he would be serving our country. He would be gone for three months at bootcamp where he would train and push himself to be the best Marine he could be.
While he was gone we got tons of letters telling us how much he missed us and all of the stuff he was doing there. We wrote him tons of letters too and we couldn’t wait to get letters back. Three months and a lot of training later he was finished. He was officially a Marine and done with bootcamp and we got to go and see him. He was onto his next step in training to serve our country.
I am proud to have a family member that is a part of the military. As much as I hated the thought of it before I couldn’t be more proud now. I believe in serving our country because I think it is the right thing to do. When you serve you are helping millions of people around the country and even around the world. Serving our country is probably the most strong and courageous thing that someone could do and I support any person who decides to join the military. So now my view on serving our country has completely changed and I believe that it has changed for the better. I love my brother even more now than I did before knowing that he is doing something great for the world.
