I believe stepdads or stepmoms can be even closer than real dads and moms.
When I was four years old, my parents got a divorce because they were bickering back and forth every night. Then in a year or so, my mom started dating her boyfriend. Then a couple years later, he kneeled on one knee and proposed to her on a beach in Hawaii on March 3rd,just like my mom has always dreamed of. They have been married for 2 years already.
My stepdad always tells me that he will never try to replace my dad. Even though he promises not to replace my dad, he does things like a good father does. He treats me to Dunkin Donuts fresh cold ice coffee. He makes me laugh when my dog Roxie gets an asthma attack whenever she gets food. He helps support me and my sister with child support. In 4th grade he even coached my track team. Every day I would hear his loud, back-east voice standing out of the crowd in the stands to support me. Now this year he went to all of my volleyball games.
Sometimes, I wish my real dad were more like my stepdad. I wish he would bring my sister and me to the Phoenix Zoo to see monkeys swinging back and forth from twig to twig, or walk around the Chandler Mall to look at the Vans store. Or take the time out to call me at least once a week and see what is new about school. Now my dad has moved to Denver, Colorado, and I only get to see him on holidays and once in the summer. I used to be able to visit him every other weekend when he lived down here.
The experience with my stepdad has been the best experience.
