Every moment of every day, someone is made fun of or judged. It may be funny to people but when you’re on the other side of the joke then it sucks.
People are made fun of for many different reasons. Some is because of disabilities they have and some are made fun of because of the color of their skin. I believe that people should be treated equally and they should not be made fun of and judged because of one thing. Everyone is different and unique in their own ways. So why should people be treated differently because of a disability or because of their limitations?
An experience of this is with my older brother, Tim. He has a disability, ADHD and Asperger’s Syndrome. When he was younger, he was constantly made fun of because of how he acts. But because of his disability, he doesn’t realize that people were making fun of him.
Because I am the most responsible child in my family, I am mostly responsible for what happens to him when my parents are not around. As I got older, I realized that he needs help. Especially with these kids who think they are “cool” because they are making my brother’s life miserable. The kids that used to make fun of him did not realize that my brother thinks that how he acts if the right way to act and behave. To this day, he is a senior in high school. He still gets made fun of even though he does not realize it.
I realize that this is happening and it makes me mad because the people who make fun of him are supposed to be mature yet, they are acting like little kids. My brother does not see anything of this but I do and I stick up for him as much as I can. I am two years younger than him and it is like I am the older sibling.
He should be treated just like any other kid in my high school. He is different, I get that, but so is every single person in the world. The same goes for anyone who is judged based on skin color. Everyone has flaws and things that hold them back. So no one should be made fun of because something holds them back further, such as a disability or any limitations. This is why I believe that everyone should be treated equally.
