An American is… A citizen. An American is a bystander that stands up for what they believe in and a person that is proud to be an American. An American to me is a person that loves America and is prideful. An American is a person that stands up for what they believe in and no matter how hard someone tries to downgrade you or push you down or even try to brain wash you to believe something else that’s not accurate.
But I believe that Americans are people that take pride in what they believe in. A person that is proud to take advantage of the privileges they get and use them wisely. I strongly believe that Americans’ best trait is our freedom. Freedom is what we offer to the citizens of America. My freedom gives me a right to get my own job at sixteen years old, or when I’m eighteen years old I will be given the right to vote for the candidate that I think is accurate to make our President.
America is how people might say is “The Land of The Free”. The land where people can come and speak their mind or come to our Country/ State and have an independent job or even come to praise their GOD without getting arrested, fined, abused, miss treated or killed.
So what would you choose? The right to explore and protest or live your life stuck in rules? I asked myself that when I see the news talk about it. And it hurts to see people that don’t have the freedom that we are given generously here in America.
When I was 8 years old, my dad talked to my uncle Sala about coming to the Unites States. I was too occupied with my game cube to notice that my uncle Sala isn’t legal so he had to get a green card. “I don’t think I will be able to have freedom for long”. My uncle said. My dad left the room for some more privacy and I felt very confused and concerned on about what was going to happen to him.
I believe that an American is a bystander of many races. Not just white and not just black. A person that has respect for his or her country. A citizen is a person that takes part in their country as a community, city, state or nation. Like Andrew Sullivan once said, “a country that promises nothing but the promise of being more fully human and never guarantees its success.
At the age of 13 my mom came to tell me “your aunt might die from cancer”. To my mom’s family that meant keep praying because everything will get better soon because God is working on our lives and he will push us through these hard times. My mom always tells me to enjoy life because you never know when god will take you. Even the simplest things in life do not depend on the outcome but it’s how well you take the information in and the way you handle the situation. Because as my mom always says “Life is like words coming out of your mouth. You can use them but you can never take them back”.
