I believe that everyone should obtain an education. My husband did not graduate from high school nor has he attempted to obtain his GED. Do not get me wrong, he has been fortunate because he has always kept a job. However, he works at a company where he will never climb the employment ladder due to his lack of education.
We make ends meet by the grace of god, but that is why I came to college to obtain a good education so I can help provide for my family and not stay in a low paying job for most of my life. I usually help the children with their homework, but I sometimes get overwhelmed because I have other chores and homework of my own that need to be completed. My husband is unable to help the kids with their homework because I feel I would have to review it because I would not trust that it was correct. I have encouraged him to get his GED, but he feels he does not need it.
When I finish this term I will be completely finished with my degree requirements. I will be looking for a full-time job that pays well and has good benefits to go along with it. Perhaps in the future, I will be his role model and he will one day obtain the necessary educational requirements for his career.
Statistics show that reasons for poverty include the lack of education, the lack of employment and the lack of opportunities. With these statistics in mind, one must work hard to try to succeed in life.
I came from a single-parent home. My mother worked numerous jobs to remain financially stable with four children in her household. My mother had a high-school education, but she was a recovering alcoholic that would never complete tasks. Growing up I told myself that I wanted to go farther in life than my mother had. While reflecting on my mother’s experiences, I used to wonder if she went to college if she would have earned a better paying job. My twin sister on the other hand has gone farther educationally than me or my mother. “She has a PhD.” She has been in college ever since she has graduated from high school. She is a homeowner and she makes really good money because of her education and positive experiences. My twin sister’s success comes from her education. This shows me that with the belief in god and obtaining an education all things are possible. The choices that you make today can have an impact on your future. So that is why I believe an education is an important factor in one’s life.
