I believe that music can change the way you look at things.
I believe that music can make you feel like you’re closer to someone, as it has for me.
In June of 2010, I lost my father… forever. When I play my music, or sing, it somehow makes me feel closer to him. Like…he’s really here with me.
While I was in Florida for my father’s funeral, I found the time the day before the viewing to write him a song. As I was singing it to myself, it made me feel as if he were actually here listening, and it made me feel better.
The day of the viewing I was nervous…I know, I know, its sounds dumb to have been nervous, but you can’t blame me. I was afraid that I would walk into that room and there he would be, in a coffin, lifeless, and pale, lying on the white bed looking thing they have on the bottom of a coffin. I’m so glad that’s not what I walked in to see. Instead, I walked in and saw dozens and dozens of different flowers, and in the middle of them an evening sky blue colored pattern of something, and I can’t remember what it was. I do remember that at the top of the urn there were three bird like figures and inside were my father’s ashes. I had forgotten he said when he dies he would like to be cremated, and also that a Mountain Dew bottle cap be placed with his cremated body (ashes). As his CD played, pictures from when he was little to now, the music selected throughout the video amazed me because it came from his mp3, and it just happened to be some of my favorite songs. That’s when I realized that that’s what connected me to my father. The power of music is something that we have in common. That’s why music makes me feel so much closer to him.
I believe that music can change everything! Music has and still does change my life every day, like when I write a song or turn on my iPod.
Whenever I turn on the TV or go somewhere and see one person or a group of people, it’s always fun to watch them as music carries them through problems or just to see them dance to it. It’s just really cool.
I believe that whenever I play my music that he is here with me, because you never really know who is listening, unless you can feel it through the “power of music.” I believe that if you listen to the music and really feel the power that it has, you can feel closer to someone and that you can do anything.
The power of music is stronger than you think.
I believe in the… Power of Music.
