Freedom
Share This Essay:
I believe in freedom, not just freedom of religion or speech but freedom in its almost absolute form.
For when do we as a people revolt? Under a belief of over restriction, do we not feel the need to break open our cage or down the fences keeping us in just to show we are in control of our own lives? I believe the human race has many needs, however unlike our need for water or food the need for control is on another level. Think back to your kindergarten days and when you didn’t want to share the dinosaur toy with little Sally Sue, talking like “no sally you aint touching my dinosaur”, but of course Mrs. Moberly shows up pointing the finger and telling you to give in to Sally’s demands and share. What did you do you whined and complained and spoke words like “unfair” and “But why?” until later in life when you thought it rude not to share. I bet you never thought about who decided what rude was because what is rude except a reason for punishment, and by punishment I really mean someone telling you what you can and can’t do thus diminishing your already lacking amount of control.
At my house I’m not going to lie I have disrespected my parents before and there is a good chance I will do it again, and don’t get me wrong this isn’t an excuse to disrespect parents or authority but the times that I do disrespect my parents, break or bend the rules its due to my opinion of how much control I should have. I mean that when I feel that I have been over restricted I lash out to show I still have control. Which is also why I truly and very deeply believe in a walk alone at night. In the night most people are sleeping and its dark out so even if they were awake it would be hard to see. I believe in this night walk because I’m not judged at night. I believe in this night walk because I feel my only restriction is time. I believe in this night walk because I feel… free.
For one to understand what I’m saying one must first understand my meaning of freedom, and for me freedom is the opportunity to act upon the fantastic gift called free will.
