I believe in the power of ability. I believe people have the ability to achieve heights they have never dreamt of reaching. I am here on earth on a journey, a quest with a goal to accomplish. Though there might be obstacles, large and small, here and there along the way the adversity you might challenge will just enhance your feeling of accomplishment once your goal has been met.

I was born with many complications all associated with a rare disorder called Caudal Regression Syndrome. There are many defects, abnormalities, and challenges that come along with it. In a nutshell Caudal Regression Syndrome is a rare disorder in which the lower portion of the spine is missing therefore affecting much of the lower extremities. This disorder is very rare only affecting about 1 in every 350,000 babies born. Fortunately my case is very mild and it turned out not to be life threatening but only some physical abnormalities. Many times I will think to myself why me, why was I chosen out of 350,000 people to take on this challenge. I do not believe this was just mere coincidence, I believe there’s got to be a reason for it because there is a reason for everything. I believe I also have the ability to achieve great heights just like any other person despite my personal challenges.

A couple of years ago I was experiencing a personal health issue which needed to be taken care of before I grew up. My parents and I were traveling across the U.S. visiting various doctors; the majority of the doctors which we visited were suggesting that I undergo major surgery to my stomach which would change my life forever. After thinking the suggestion over with my parents I insisted that we told the doctors no for now. Being that I was a very persistent and confident child my parents agreed with me and told the doctors no for the time being. Though the doctors all were sure that the issue was impossible to be solved without surgery I was still confident in my ability to solve the problem on my own. After a couple of months I was able to achieve success. After a visit to the doctor they were all amazed at my abilities they never knew existed. Though it appears as if this was a true miracle, I believe it was only I taking advantage of my perseverance, confidence, and true ability.

Not only I, but each and every person has the capability to utilize the constructive powers of will, and courage to beat personal challenges. Whether the challenge is as large as a major surgery or as small as having a paper cut, I believe everybody has the power of ability. We all must be aware of this fantastic skill and make sure to take advantage of it and we would be surprised with the amazing results.
